WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL TO PARENTS AND LEARNERS
Dear Parents,
On behalf of the staff at John Orr Engineering School of Specialisation, I am happy to welcome you to the 2025 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a significant difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities.
School will reopen for all learners on the 15 January 2025. Staff will be on duty from the 13 January 2025.
Please take note that school starts at 07h30 and finishes at 13h40. Learners should bring their own lunchbox as the tuckshop is still closed until further notice.
NB: Grade 8 learners will have mandatory orientation on Tuesday 14 January 2025 from 08h00 until 12h00. Learners should arrive for orientation in their full school uniform. Parents should collect learners timeously after 12h00.
All learners will bring home more information about the 2025 academic year, so please take time to read the documents and letters as they contain important information.

Enrolment Information
• Our language of teaching and learning and communication is English.
• Please remember that John Orr Engineering School of Specialisation is a specialisation high school and learners who apply should have an established foundation in terms of our key learning areas i.e. Mathematics and Physical Science.
Why Schools of Specialisation?
Initially a Technical High school, John Orr was gazetted as a School of Specialisation with 813 learners and 63 staff members by the Gauteng Provincial Government on 22 August 2022. At the unveiling ceremony, then Gauteng Education MEC Mr Panyaza Lesufi, said the provincial government was changing the education landscape and investing in critical skills needed for the country.
With its focus on renewable energy and alternative sources of energy, John Orr Engineering School of Specialisation is leading the way in changing the education system in the province.
